Crohn's disease
finding a natural path through
Welcome
Hi there. My name is Dave and I’d like to offer you a warm welcome to my website. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2003 and have spent many years learning about the disease. From outset I declined steroids and other medical options, choosing instead to learn how to overcome Crohn’s using entirely natural methods. Numerous people have asked me to share my story so finally I decided to publish everything I have learned on a website. And here it is!
If you are reading this site chances are you either have Crohn’s or have a friend or family member struggling with the disease and are trying to relieve the oftentimes debilitating symptoms without having to undertake months or maybe years of reading and study. I ‘get it’ – I was in that same place once so I’ve tried to design this site in such a way that you can find information quickly about remedies that might offer respite from some or all of those symptoms. More information about each option is also available here so you may do a ‘deeper dive’ into anything that you think may be helpful.
Natural Options sets out the ‘A, B, C’s’, a quick reference to life changes I made that yielded results. Resources dives deeper into the books, articles and subjects that taught me how to live more naturally, and, by doing so, heal my body. ‘Essential Reading’, is indicated, information I applied that yielded significant results quickly.
My Story covers some of my experiences living with and then overcoming Crohn’s disease. Why? Because I know how lonely the Crohn’s journey can be and the challenges of dealing with the symptoms. I had Crohn’s badly so I want you to know you can overcome it no matter your symptoms but it will take knowledge, application and the humility to listen to your body’s needs. Finally there’s a Contact page. Say ‘Hi’ and I’ll respond to questions if I can.
How will you know that anything you try is really helping? Great question. This is exactly what I challenged myself with at outset. My GP recommended I undergo extensive 3-monthly blood tests, notably for the inflammatory markers CRP (C-Reactive Protein) and ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate). Initially they fluctuated widely as I experimented with diet and lifestyle but now, 12 years later, they consistently return values at the bottom end of the normal scale. I’ve included some of mine in the Blood Tests blog post to evidence the information you’ll find on my site.
This leads to the question of medical advice. I am not a doctor and hold no medical qualifications. The content on this site represents my lived experiences, my learnings from years of study and the knowledge I have gained about Crohn’s disease. I encourage you to work with your GP especially regarding blood tests as they are perhaps the best marker of progress. Fortunately I had the most fantastic GP from outset (and several more along the way) who monitored me closely so we KNEW what was working and what wasn’t.
That’s it! You can do this. See you on the other side……..
