Carbohydrate malabsorption and Crohn's disease.
People suffering with Crohn’s disease may initially be diagnosed with IBS as their symptoms intensify, a vague diagnosis often put down to ‘unknown causes’. But could dietary changes help the body to self-heal and prevent escalation into Crohn’s disease?
‘IBS is linked to cycles of carbohydrate malabsorption and bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. The overgrowing bacteria produce toxins, enzymes and gas that can damage the intestinal surface while causing pain, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, and other familiar symptoms of IBS.’ Source: Fast Tract Digestion IBS.

This was one of the two books that turned my life around (along with Grain Brain). When I significantly reduced carbohydrate consumption my inflammatory marker ESR began to fall. I didn’t understand at the time that most carbohydrate based food leaves an acidic residue in the bowel, this knowledge came later with The pH Miracle and The Acid-Alkaline Food Guide.
However, Dr Robillard’s Fast Tract Digestion IBS book was hugely influential for me in making comprehensive changes to my diet on moving onto the right path that enabled my body to begin healing.
I’m also extremely grateful to Dr. Robillard for sending me a copy of the book by special delivery to the UK. When I discovered The Fast Tract Diet the Heartburn version was available in the UK but not the IBS version. He kindly arranged to send a copy to the UK when I explained about the severity of my symptoms. I’m still grateful to him for his kindness.
