Herbal remedies to support recovery from Crohn's disease

Herbal remedies in Crohn's disease recovery.

Have you ever read a book entitled ‘Pen Ts’ao’ written by Shen Nung? No, me neither. I have a feeling it may be out of print as it was first published in 2800BC. It is the first written record of herbal medicine use and considered to be the origin of Chinese medicine. We do indeed have a long history of turning to nature when our bodies become sick and almost 5000 years of accumulated wisdom working with plants and herbs. Sources (1), (2).

For anyone who has not tried herbal medicine it is ‘… the study or practice of the medicinal and therapeutic use of plants and  herbal medicines and are prescribed for the prevention and treatment of a person in a state of disease or illness……(it) is the most ancient form of medicine and, in fact, remains the most common form of medicine in use today. The World Health Organization estimates that 80% of the global population rely at least partially on herbal medicines for their primary health care needs, and the use of herbal remedies is so widespread that most people do not even realize that they are using them. For example, common herbs and spices added to food frequently aid the digestion. Most people know that dock leaves will ease a nettle sting and that putting vinegar on a wasp sting will relieve the pain.’ Source

The key point here is that herbal medicine can offer a natural gentle remedy that works with the body, helping it to self-heal. Herbalists generally make themselves available for consultations at sensible prices meaning a patient has an opportunity to chat through their symptoms and agree a treatment plan. Sometimes just chatting through a problem can ease the stress of trying to resolve one’s symptoms.

I’ve used herbal remedies for many years to help with a variety of symptoms not all relating to Crohn’s disease. There are many herbs that help to heal the digestive tract but I’ve also used them for such diverse issues as sinus infections and in the recovery from being over-exposed to EMF radiation from a cell tower. If you decide it’s something you’d like to try I can wholeheartedly recommend The Herbary in Kent, England.
