With electricity costs rapidly rising and a 580W distiller taking around 5.5 hours to deliver 4L of pure water I wanted a sensibly priced alternative with minimal maintenance or long term commitment. My investigation led me to a Berkey system which cost me around £350. Filters last around 10 years and require flushing out every 3 months or so. Testing the filtered water showed pH to be around 6.75, a little low when compared to the optimal 7.365, but something I can correct with electrolyte supplementation.
